I began playing computer games as early as 4 years old. I remember back then, the "in" thing was the family computer. Years after, it became the playstation which later had its different versions. Now that I am passed my teenage years and already building my future, I am still very much addicted to playing
virtual reality games. But I now have an Xbox and not the primitive ones of course. As soon as I get home from a long day of office and field works, my body shouts of an automatic yearning to play any XboX game. I find playing a very good stress-releasing activity and one that is a good prelude to a good night sleep. But over the years, I can honestly admit that getting hooked to playing playstations and Xbox is not always good, it also has its bad sides. Its bad effects surpassed those that are already common to us such as the promotion of violence among kids and the disturbance it causes in study habits. We need not go to the social level, even the personal level can attest to certain negative implications of being addicted to virtual reality games. Mine are my strained and damaged eyes.
The sharp colors that our dear Xbox produce are admittedly fun to look at and even enhances the excitement of playing games especially those that have over the top fighting sequences. But unknown to many of us, overexposure to these sharp, ultravibrant colors can damage our eyes. My eyesight vision now is miles away from the normal, healthy standard vision. They often get easily irritated and even cause
traumatic headaches at times. My doctor said that overexposure to sharp colors from the television screen was most probably the culprit. Since I really cannot get playing XBox games out of my system, my doctor gave some tips to avoid further eye damages which I would like to share to you guys. First, have a regular rest interval if you are playing for long hours. Closing your eyes for a couple of minutes every 30 minute period is good enough. Pausing the game will not kill your character. Next, use an eyedrop to relax your eyes after each long-hours sessions of playing. Finally, put some distance between you and your television screen so the harmful effects of the radiating lights and colors can be lessen.
